Redeveloping a local youth centre
Peter Wells Architects has submitted a planning application for the development of Framlingham Youth Club on behalf of Ed Sheeran and his charity.
After learning the existing facility in the area was to close after more than 20 years, Sheeran seized the opportunity to create improved facilities for his community.
The 35-year-old will finance the long-term project, which includes music rehearsal facilities, an art studio, gymnasium, cookery classes and a library. Planning documents submitted to East Suffolk council show the scale of the project. Named Fram Fam, the centre will be funded by Ed and his charity, the Framlingham Foundation Trust.

A source explained: “This is a real passion project for Ed – who loves the area and feels strongly about giving back to his local community.
“He’s committed to paying for the building and also financing its maintenance and upkeep – along with financially supporting the charity who run it – although he won’t be hands on with the day-to-day operations.
“He heard that the existing youth club was going to close down and wanted to step in and do something for kids growing up just like he did, so started the process and finally it’s coming to fruition.
“He’s very excited to be able to be a part of it, especially being able to provide arts funding and facilities. He knows how valuable that sort of thing would have been to him when he was growing up.”
The centre will cater for children from birth to 18-years-old when it opens.
Designed by Peter Wells Architects, the proposals include the alteration and extension of the existing clubhouse and the erection of a new multifunctional facility and gymnasium that can be used for a variety of recreational activities by local families, along with associated parking areas.
